Buddha View Conservation
Here at Buddha View Dive Centre we care a lot about our ocean and the life that it supports. Diving allows us to come face to face with the incredible marine ecosystems but we must remember our responsibility to preserve and respect these fragile environments.
Join Our Ocean Conservation Community!
At Buddha View Dive Centre, we believe protecting our oceans starts with us understanding our oceans. It starts with us — and with you. Our Conservation Department is building a community, starting a movement of divers, locals and visitors who care about the health of our reefs and coastlines.
Marine Conservation Project
We are excited to announce the launch of our new marine conservation project in Tanote Bay — the creation of an artificial coral reef designed to give damaged reef habitats a chance to recover and thrive. Once permits are finalized, we’ll begin transplanting healthy coral fragments onto purpose-built reef structures. These will provide stable foundations where corals can grow, fish can shelter, and biodiversity can flourish.
This project is more than just planting corals — it’s about designing a resilient reef ecosystem that can withstand the pressures of diving, climate change, and other human impacts. By combining coral gardening, ongoing monitoring, and community involvement, we’re working to restore balance beneath the waves and give something back to the ocean that gives us so much.
Alongside this, we’ll be developing a comprehensive conservation program, including coral health monitoring, biodiversity surveys, and ongoing maintenance of the reef. The project will also create opportunities for visiting divers and local community members to learn hands-on conservation skills and actively contribute to reef restoration.
As part of this, we will be offering a range of conservation-focused courses and programs, tailored to different levels of experience — from beginners who want an introduction to marine ecology, to advanced divers looking to gain practical restoration skills. Each program is built on two foundations: raising awareness about the challenges facing our oceans, and promoting conscious diving practices that minimize impact and encourage respect for marine life.
Whether you join a short workshop, a specialty diving course, or a more in-depth conservation program, our aim is that you leave with not just new skills, but a deeper understanding of how to interact with the ocean responsibly. These courses are designed to empower every diver to become an advocate for the reefs, ensuring that our collective love of diving actively contributes to the protection and regeneration of the underwater world.
Right now, we’re leading ongoing conservation activities such as beach clean ups, CoralWatch surveys (collecting valuable coral health data), And PADI Dive Against Debris ( removing marine debris while contributing to a global database of citizen science). These events happen regularly, so be sure to check our agenda and follow us on social media for the latest updates and opportunities to join.
These activities are open to everyone — whether you’re a seasoned diver, a new snorkeler, or simply someone interested about how the oceans work. We provide guidance and training to ensure that every participant can contribute in a meaningful way while getting the best experience.
How You Can Already Get Involved:
-
Explore our agenda and follow us on social media to keep up with the upcoming conservation events.
-
Take part in our CoralWatch Surveys, Dive Against Debris dives, or community clean-ups.
-
Join our mission to protect our oceans — one dive, one survey, one action at a time.

Community Events
Thanks to our recently opened hostel we host weekly events at the hostel, featuring guest speakers, documentary screenings and land-based coral conservation workshops.
We also organise different events every month for everyone to enjoy an opportunity to get involved and learn more about our oceans, events like:
-
Beach clean ups: Join our beach clean ups! We will sort the different materials and give all the bottle caps to the PlasTao project so they can repurpose them and give them a new life.
-
Dive Against Debris: From our own shore dive - Tanote Bay, you can join our staff in our workshops where we will take debris out of the oceans, sort it out and collect data about it for statistical purposes - there will also be an open forum afterwards where everyone is invited to voice their thoughts about something that concerns us all: our oceans.
Marine Conservation Events

-
Sea Slug Census:
Join us for this citizen science project. The sea slug census initiative will have you exploring the vibrant nudibranchs of Tanote’s shores, after an introduction to nudibranch ecology we’ll photograph species in their natural habitat. We will upload our discoveries to iNaturalist to support global biodiversity records, then share insights and questions in our open debriefing forum.
-
CoralWatch Surveys:
While we launch our own coral conservation project - watch out for news! Join us on this citizen science initiative - CoralWatch. We will be steadily surveying the artificial coral structures - surveying, photographing and identifying the coral so we can do more rigorous surveys of the area, thus making it more useful for the scientific community!
We will conduct briefings introducing the scope of the project and some introductory notions around corals, what they are and what they need to thrive.
Our staff are PADI MSDT that can also teach you the relevant specialties to help you in your journey in conservation. Specialties like Peak Performance Buoyancy or Digital Underwater Photography can help you in advocating for the oceans while making sure we have the minimum impact on these environments.

To make your experience even more meaningful, we offer customized combinations and packages that bring together courses, adventure dives, and conservation surveys. These bundles are designed to help you progress as a diver while deepening your understanding of marine ecosystems. Whether you choose to refine your skills, contribute to citizen science, or immerse yourself in conservation-focused learning, our packages provide the perfect balance of education, exploration, and environmental awareness — all at a discounted price.
We invite you to inquire directly with our conservation team to learn about the different package options currently available. We are also in the process of developing a comprehensive Marine Conservation Training Programme, designed to offer a structured path from recreational diving to active involvement in marine research and restoration projects.
